"If we had people dancing on top of dead bodies that would indeed be disrespectful."

But a float depicting a pile of dead Holocaust victims for a Carnival parade called "Shockers"... come on! That's "extremely respectful, it's a warning, it's something shocking that we don't want to happen ever again."

Yea, because nothing says PARTY NAKED!! like a Holocaust float.

Of course it's tasteless. For a tasteful Mardi Gras celebration you have to head to New Orleans, not Rio.

Cambodia, Congo, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur....

Do the people who say this 'never again' mantra actually know any history or keep up with current events or do they just say this crap cause it sounds good?

Somehow, the people who perpetrate genocide aren't swayed by rhetoric or tasteless parade floats.

Maybe if we just hugged them more or gave them a State. Or some money from the UN. Because we all know that actually DOING something to oppose genocidal dictators just makes more of them. Or something.

I don't know that I'd go so far as to call our Mardi Gras tasteful (I'm looking forward to the all-girl Camel Toe Steppers marching group tomorrow night, for example), but yeah, we're Miss Manners in comparison to this float. My god. What the hell were they thinking?

I'm betting that will be a big hit.

Well I think they quote where they want to raise awareness so it never happens again answers that. That is the general attitude of many who think that if you just show how much you care, things will be so much better.

Its a lot like the people who have the SAVE DARFUR bumperstickers would be covering them with WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER if Bush sent the
1st Infantry Division there to save Darfurians from the Janjaweed.
