The Reel Geezers tell you what political films to watch.

ADDED: A quote: "Every political movie about the electoral system shows that it's corrupt." Is that true? And why is it true? My favorite political movie about the electoral system -- that's how the geezers narrow the category for discussion purposes -- is "The War Room," the documentary about the 1992 Clinton campaign. I love rewatching that. (Buy it here.)

Another quote: "Frank Capra was basically a fascist."

Frank Capra a fascist because of his optimism about America?? Who the f**k are these dried-up Reds?
After sliming Capra I'm surprised they didn't do an agitprop riff on Kazan.

They probably cried when Stalin died, cheered Trotsky's assassination, and wept when the Wall fell.

"Gabriel Over the White House"

1933.

Benevolent fascist President Judson Hammond (Walter Huston) rules America...terrorist bombings..federal police...military trials...military firing squads...Congress intimidated...US air armada cows assembled foreign dignitaries into accepting US policies.

Financed by Hearst. Republican Louis Mayer had it re-cut to tone it down. FDR loved the movie. True.

The whole movie is online.

Whew! At first I thought I was watching Bloggingheads Future with Ann and Bob Wright!

But then I realized that Bob is always on the left side of the screen...

Seems like an older Bob and Mickey to me. Bob Wright is basically a testosterone free old maid and the old bald fart has Mickey Kaus' disoriented and contradictory persona down pat.

But the lady was far less hysterical in reaction to the geezer's opinions than Bob Wright is toward Mickey's.

My stereotyped image of Frank Capra was that he was a film making version of liberal Democrats like Roosevelt and John Steinbeck.

But he was a conservative Republican apparently.

Here's a political movie in full. The Seduction of Joe Tynan - 1979.

If anything, Capra was a socialist.

Regardless of the geezers' take on Capra - we love him... and a bunch of other political movies. We need a bit of a break from the relentless election news coverage (and cheap weekend plans due to all the market news coverage.)
