Gads, more than 12 hours without an Althouse post! I assume "life" was being lived...We all have to adjust to these things, I suppose.

I generally don't like stomping on old wooden bridges. I blame movies.

Where is that?
Vilas Park?
Tenney Park has all stone bridges.

Happy Thanksgiving Meadhouse!

Happy Thanksgiving.

And I too am thankful. For soup.

I wish i could know you all for real.

I also wish I could be your intellectual equal.

Still..

If somebody asked me you could only meet one, I think I would pick Chip. (there would always be another chance to ..)

The worst thing that could happen meeting Chip is I would get well fed ;)

OT: Speaking of that State Dinner for the Indian PM...two gate crashers attended, getting through security and even posting their pics at the White House on their Facebook!!

(They're socialites, and the woman was recently chosen to be the final castmember of "Real Wives of Wash DC)

This is incredible. It's just Amateur Hour, all the time.

Cheers,
Victoria

Just in case it was missed in the over 250+ comments in the previous thread, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! I am going to a hotel with my folks to chillax during the holiday. Be back soon(ish).

Hey, there's a footbridge there too. I may take a photo for Ann.

Cheers,
Victoria

Hurry up and cross the bridge before the ice caps melt and the waters rise and the bridge is washed away. Dontchaknow.

I spent Thanksgiving eve baking - buttermilk pies, pumpkin pies, bananna pudding, parkerhouse rolls (not yet baked, but the dough is ready) and cupcakes. I missed all the fun here. But I'm okay with that.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Say that one more time and you will be called a STUD, victoria.

Say it two more times and DBQ will make you her bitch.

Me? I just watch the silly. ;)

Good morning, fellow Althousians, and Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

Special thanks to Althouse for hosting this wonderful blog.

Gorgeous picture!

Happy thanksgiving to all.

Like Chip, I spent thanksgiving eve baking as well, but no buttermilk pie. Not sure what that is. I did make an O So Good pie, which nobody else seems to make but my family. It has raisins. Yummy!

Happy Thanksgiving to all from first time briner.

I sure hope it works out, it's been swimming since last night and there is no turning back now.

My daughter, son in law, and two grandchildren are coming over today. Can't wait. They always remind me how thankful I am that I didn't get what I deserved, but was smiled on and blessed with so much more.

Beautiful shot again, Ann. This one movie quality, too. You may have missed your calling as a cinematographer.

You and me both, Lem.

Gads, more than 12 hours without an Althouse post!

Necking in the law library the last two days and lost track of time, huh? Well, go ahead, you crazy kids, give each other an extra special big hug and an, "I love you".

Be thankful for each other and all the friends you have on this blog.

(1) Knightsbridge Foot Club?

(2) It’s a small world but I wouldn’t want to paint it . . . nor that bridge.

(3) [Our scene is the TV announcers’ booth at the Thanksgiving Day parade.]

ANNOUNCER ONE: Uh oh, here comes our friend, Bullwinkle J. Moose.

HOMER: [watching TV from home] Heh. Heh. Heh. Bullwinkle's antler sprung a leak.

ANNOUNCER ONE: Uh oh, looks like ol' Bullwinkle's kinda gotten a taste of his own medicine. Ha. Ha.

ANNOUNCER TWO: He certainly does, Bill.

ONE: Ha. Ha. Wait . . . what did . . . Did what I say make any sense?

TWO: Well . . . no, not really Bill.

ONE: Boy, now I know how the Pilgrims felt!

-- “Bart v. Thanksgiving” (1990)

(4) Best wishes and happy Thanksgiving to all, although your holiday customs and ways are strange to my people. See?

(5) wv = tzzlegu. The word my people use to say "to you the thanks of this day to be the givings."

I wonder if there's a Knightsbridge Football Club.

My step-mother called me at 3 am to tell me they were barely moving on I-95 in heavy fog and heavier traffic. Did she think I had stayed up (their house is next door)?

She insisted we go to the country club for Thanksgiving dinner, but I've just cooked a turkey anyway, just for me.

It's a bridge over doubled water.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Time to turn on the parade.

I know exactly how those gatecrashers feel.

Happy Thanksgiving!

a thousand blessings
on Althouse and Meade
on this day of gratitude

my blessings are many
more than can be counted
just a small list I offer

sons and daughter, safe, here
my wife who is
my best friend
despite everything

a warm and sturdy house
more food than we should
cars that run
an indoor azalea, in bloom
books, shelved, in piles,
some actually were read

a serviceable cat (added
here for fond family,
as I am agnostic on felines)

a serviceable faith
though less reliable than
the cars or the cat

and an odd set of friends
never met
but through glowing text
seen almost every day
electronic spirits
a kind of magic

for these blessings
I am thankful

What I am thankful for today:

That Althosue failed the Sullivan homework and has no hope of ever passing. I guess she hopes that we will forget.

But we wont'!

AllenS said...

Your homework for today, Andy, will be to learn how to spell Althouse.

To everyone else, Happy Thanksgiving.

I'd like to build the world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow-white turtle doves

I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company

I'd like to see the world for once
All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
For peace throughout the land

(That's the song I hear)
I'd like to teach the world to sing
(Let the world sing today)
In perfect harmony

I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company.

You will never not brine your bird again! Watch the cook time, it always cooks a lot faster for me.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

john said...

Can I start brining now and still make the 4PM deadline? How do I do this? (I checked Chip's site and didn't see any turkeys (whole)).

(I still want the stuffing in the bird. I have to have the stuffing in the bird.)

Thanks to all here, even to Andy the troll. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Wife has stuffed the turkey and put it in the oven, one son is home -- he was rammed from behind at a stop light and was injured so we have him in his old bed and are sort of looking after him -- and younger son will be home from graduate school later today.

Life could be better but still pretty good.

Injured son is sleeping in. As soon as he's up I have a honey-do list to start working off that involves drilling and hammering.

Oh, and I just ordered some Christmas presents from Amazon using the Professor's link. She and Meade are good people, even if she did vote for you-know-who and even if she is a professor at (yuck!!!) Wisconsin.

Beta Conservative said...

I heard somewhere that faster turkey cooking times have nothing to do with brine, but are a clear sign of man made global warming.

The computer models are clear on this.

I've always wanted to build a bridge like that. Perhaps not quite that large, but build one just the same.

Something I should "add to the list".

Shanna said...

Hee to Fred!!! I was hoping it would be Obama bowing to the Turkey but that's just as good.

does the sight of that bridge inspire Meade to make over the backyard?

Unsatisfied with backyard paths and walkways, my back fence neighbor built a boardwalk instead, a miniature version of what you would see in a wetlands park.

The bridge is in Olbrich Garden.
