"Despite protests from the West, her sentence will be carried out if the judiciary decides to carry it out..."

Iran relents in spite of/because of our objections.

If Iran does stone her, can we expect Justice Breyer to use this important foreign legal standard as a rationale for imposing new government fiat in the United States.

Didn't Iran get a seat on the UN's commission on women or something like that? Obviously, for their forward looking view of the role of women in society.

Isn't it ironic that there is such a media storm about this, when so little was said about the US and UK's acquiescence to Iran's appointment to the UN Commission on the Status of Women!

The story is 'Obama saved a woman from stoning - for now'..

If Obama cannot save a woman from stoning permanently.. then I think I should be ashamed that he is my el presidente.

(Did NYT just copy this article from an Iranian government press-release?)

OT: The piece says the Red Chinese are the biggest executioners in the world.

Anybody want to venture a guess why they're so 'progressive' even though they exercise the death penalty, but we're a pack of barbarians for doing it a whole lot less and with a lot more agonizing?

Or Justice Scalia and his ilk thinking and writing that if only we did that a few times here in the United States there would be a lot less trouble from the rabble...they would see one stoning on FauxNoise and not steal candy from a store every again...

Ya'betcha!!! (and thanks for giving Sarah a talking point on a woman's right to have sex if she wants to.....)

As usual HD ducks the question, standard Uncle Saul, but, when you are trying to stick up for the bloodiest regime in human history, I understand you have to avoid the truth.

YA BETCHA!!!!

Where is this coming from? Is there a point somewhere in there?

Have you ever noticed, that just like the woman taken in adultery to Jesus by the group of men in the Bible, that no male offender was offered up for judgment here? Jesus stooped down and wrote something in the dirt. We don't know what it was. Perhaps her sexual partner was one of her accusers? Likewise, this woman's sexual partner is not offered up for whipping and stoning. God help Middle Eastern women and the tortures they endure.

HD -- When has Scalia ever used foreign law?

Go to school, dude. Learn something.

So let's see. All of the protests coming from the civilized world has managed to do what, precisely? Changed it so that she'll be hung or forced to kneel in a public square and a bullet put through her head instead of being stoned? Or maybe they'll just lock her up until no one's looking and then stone her?

What a victory for civilization against the forces seeking a return to the Middle Ages.
