"Students Laugh When Obama Tells Them 'You Inspire Me.'"

Hey, those students inspire me! They know how to detect bullshit.

The defining feature of bullshit is that the speaker is unconcerned whether what he says true or not, according to Harry Frankfurt.

Considering how badly NE OH has fared in the last 4 years, GodZero must be sweating bullets tonight after that reaction.

Not to mention the fact that this particular student body gives some indication there may be hope for America's yoots after all.

These kids were gullible 14 year-olds in 2008 and now they're rebellious 17/18 year-olds in a shitty economy. Most of them will be voting this November. Obama, the phoney president, is fucked.

Steve M. Galbraith said...

I've not been a Obama hater (I really considered voting for him) but this man is the most cynical president we've had since Nixon.

It's shocking to me how crude he's become.

I plead guilty: I fell for a lot of the "change" and "hope" and "we're going to be different" promises.

What a dope I was.

"Tepid applause."

Indeed it was.

But the undecideds are like silverfish; they go whatever way the moment suggests, anchored by nothing.

So even an uninspiring, flat, bored, and wooden delivery may push them to trend blue over red.

I have little confidence otherwise. So they laugh now, and pull the lever anyway.

Well, to be frank, you could just call "bullshit" each time Obama opens his mouth and have a high probability of being correct.

Methadras said...

My bullshit meter pegged when I saw him for the first time in his 2004 DNC speech.

MayBee said...

Really.

The best part of his speech yesterday was that he was standing in a high school gym explaining why he was about to do something unconstitutional because the Republicans were big meanies.

Thucydides said...

How many times will it take for crowds laughing at him to trigger a raging meltdown straight out of Der Untergang?

Not too many, I expect

Zachary Sire said...

they started laughing cause someone said something off camera that the audio didn't pick up. that's why he reacted the way he did.

MayBee said...

Although watching it yesterday and watching the video, I was/am under the impression that nobody really responded to his "you inspire me", but perhaps some student in the audience made a crack. It seems like Obama looks at someone and kind of responds "You do", and then something in the audience makes everyone laugh.

The response to "you inspire me" was pretty much dead silence.

In reply to SMGalbraith ... I plead guilty: I fell for a lot of the "change" and "hope" and "we're going to be different" promises.

Here was a man who had never participated in any legislation of any consequence in either the IL or US Senate, as he always was campaigning for his next office. He never experienced compromise to get legislation done, so why did you think he was going to be post-partisan or whatever he called it at the time? Obama's idea of compromise is for you to cave on every principle that you support and adopt his position in full.

The suggestion that the laugh is coincidental seems plausible to me. In order for the laugh to be a direct response to his speech, students would need to have been paying attention. If one student was, and made some witty remark, then the laughter follows. I think his speech patterns are too staccato and hard to listen to.

It's always all about him.

Obama's close to saying You. Complete. Me.

What matters most, and always has, is how Dan Quayle spells potatoe.

Republicans are dumb.

Real American said...

i'm sure they inspire him to assume he can solve all of their problems and create a huge government bureaucracy with thousands unionized government employees to do so.

And Coulter isn't as conservative as the ultimate Catholic in using the parlance of his time William F. Buckley Jr.

He lost me when he flat-out lied about never hearing Rev. Wright say any of those things. Not a one. Yeah, right.

And the press lost me (again) when they gave him a pass on that and everything else. (Those mean Repbulicans made me forgo public financing. Yeah, it was their fault.)

SMGalbraith-

I plead guilty: I fell for a lot of the "change" and "hope" and "we're going to be different" promises.

I actually believed a lot of it at one point, too. I really thought he was amazing through his "we are the ones we've been waiting for" speech and the first will.i.am video.

Then I realized that although he talked a lot about listening to all ideas, he had nothing good to say about any idea that came from George W Bush. He felt completely free to demonize him. He couldn't be honest about the surge. He couldn't acknowledge the complexities of Gitmo. Nothing.

Oh Zachary, still willing to lap up the sloppy seconds of a completely spent load, are you?

I'm surprised that the House hasn't started impeachment based on Obama's populist claim to be above the Constitution.

That's the constitutional way to check power.

Ha! I immediately flashed back to the lame ass DNC fund raising emails. 'You inspire me' is perfect for one of those.

I know:

This probably isn't a good time to point out YOU VOTED FOR THE DOOFUS.

But hey - they're kids - and so, in any way possible, need to be shown how smart they are by comparison.

Good job, Chillin's. Bad job, Ann. Very, very bad job,...

Too bad Joe Wilson wasn'tthere to say, "You lie".

I don't claim to have the best BS detector, but, as soon as this guy came on my radar, red flags shot out. Can't understand why so many were fooled.

And, I don't necessarily count Annie here. She explained her thought process, and it had alot to do with ... John McCain. Yeah, the same McCain who just endorsed Romney. Idiot. Was an idiot, still an idiot. A classic lose lose situation. There was no good choice there. None.

Just like we're gonna get this time.

Oh, DEAD COUNTRY WALKING.

Pogo suspicions are right. Youth vote will go 90-10 for Obama in Nov.

If only a hundred yout's vote next November, I'd say we've got nothing to worry about.

It's good that you have a sense of humor. That'll help you cope with O's win in November.

That statement is 50% bullshit. I am not known for my sense of humor.

A veteran and senator with a 30 year record of service vs. an Affirmative action baby, barely in legit politics, with a whole host of racist, socialist, friends including some involved with terrorism.

Yeah, I can see your point,...

I should add - to anyone who wants to try that "It was O.K. to vote for Obama because he was up against McCain" argument once more:

BACK TO SCHOOL FOR ALL OF YOU - STARTING WITH KINDERGARDEN!!!

You flunked adulthood aand have to start over,...

And what could that have been? If you know then share and tell us. I suspect you don't know, which is to say, you're still a fucking clueless moron no matter how long you stay away from commenting. You're idiocy has only improved.

Crack: I really hate to correct you, but
"I know:

is off base. Please, feel free to remind Ann as often as you wish.

May I add to your lists: A veteran and senator with a 30 year record of service vs. an Affirmative action baby, barely in legit politics, with a whole host of racist, socialist, friends including some involved with terrorism.

For all of Senator McCain's other faults, he has dealt with adversity and defeat. He has publicly stated that his personal behavior caused his first divorce, and that was something he regretted. McCain is getting where Kipling was talking about "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposters the same;..."

Near as I could tell, Never in President Obama's past did he ever have to deal with serious defeat or a setback. Life was handed to him on a platter. He talked the boys at the Harvard Law Review into making him an editor, even though had never published anything. Have we found the student who would have been editor, had 0bama not been there? I'd like to hear from those who made that decision, and why they made it. They are probably law professor somewhere.

I would add this about McCain: When he lists his children, he starts with the children of his first wife, from her first marriage, whom McCain adopted. One of their children is a child from India. McCain's wife was visiting Mother Teresa, and asked how she could help. Mother Teresa indicated a particular baby and said something like 'You can take that one: we don't have the resources to keep her alive.' When she got home with the baby, McCain greeted her at the airport, where she had the baby. He asked her where they were taking the baby. She said "Home." And that's where she went.
