"The senior guard Aaron Craft of Ohio State after his last-second shot bounced out, giving 11th-seeded Dayton a win over the sixth-seeded Buckeyes."

Caption to a great photo. Cool writing too:
Aaron Craft lay on the floor, his arms behind his head, staring up at the arena ceiling, as if the hardcourt were a poolside chaise longue.

Red was all around him, the jubilant scrum of Dayton players racing around the court, dancing and laughing, while Craft, Ohio State’s senior guard, just lay there, in the middle of it, the popped balloon at a raging party.

His mind raced: the last four seconds, the last four years....

Craft is a hell of a basketball player, but not a very good shooter. Why,in the last 2 games of the season (Big 10 Tournament semifinals and this one) he was taking the last shot with the game on the line is dumbfounding to me.

Craft hit a last second shot to beat Wisconsin last year, so it's all good.

But EMD is correct, great defender, not much of a scorer.

If you're a good tournament team, you aren't shooting to win at the last second.

Craft does seem to have a good attitude about the loss...

Seeing field house ceiling lights from on your back is a special point of view. But life goes on.

In the locker room, Craft stood leaning against a Gatorade jug, staring off vacantly for several minutes. Finally, he turned and addressed a swarm of television cameras and reporters.

“Nothing is guaranteed,” Craft said. “Our time is done now.”

Who says athletes don't get a good education in college.

I guess, but a lot of these games are closer because:

1. They are facing relative unknowns
2. The difference between big-time talent and a cohesive team effort in college basketball is thinner than in other sports. That's why mid-majors have been so disruptive.
3. Even good teams have bad games.

All that said, Ohio State was nowhere near a consistently good force this season.

A related note, Wisconsin's basketball team has been notified that they will be the subject of hearings to be held by Congress for their anti-American activities yesterday!

Where was the photographer? Hanging from the rafters? Or do they have video cameras up there?

My Buffett bracket, screwed in the first game. I was so ready to be a billionaire, too.

@st. croix- you're in good company. Millions of busted brackets today! More importantly - Duke loses to Mercer! A good day.
