"In battle for authenticity, Scott Walker looks to Kohl's."

A CNN article about how Scott Walker has branded himself with a brand — the Wisconsin-based retailer Kohl's. CNN enumerates 4 reasons for Walker to use the Kohl's brand: 1. It signifies frugality, 2. He has a way to connect it to tax policy, 3. He can contrast himself to Hillary who probably shops at more expensive places, and 4. He can leverage easy jokes like saying "Is it from Kohl's?" when someone gives him something.

What I find weird is that CNN writes an entire article about how Walker has connected his name to Kohl's and seems to try to find everything possible to say about that but never got around to the fact that the name Kohl's has long been connected to a Democrat. Has everyone forgotten Herb Kohl already? It's his family's business and the source of all the money that allowed him to run as "Nobody's Senator But Yours":

Great slogan for a rich guy, no? It argued that he could care for us and connect with us precisely because he was wealthy, and he didn't need to get money from other people. And now, ironically, the always middle class Scott Walker is using Kohl's name to send the message that his lack of wealth connects him with us.

ADDED: WaPo has a similar article "Scott Walker stresses his discount attire and ‘regular guy’ credentials," and it also misses the Herb Kohl connection.

What's next? does he drink coffee from Starbucks? Shop at COSTCO? What a joke of a media water carrier.

The way Walker rips off Kohl's coupons for free clothes is like he is an anti-Kohl.

CNN is stressing that point to make Walker seem an anti-southern social hierachist type. How can he lead if he cannot be arrogant like a king?

The Kohl's in my town appears to be losing the game. Target is winning.

Herb Kohl was not very colorful, iirc, but I am under the impression he was not their kind of Democrat?

Also, Marshalls.

Advice to Kohl's business development department: don't open a store in the same strip mall with an off-price store that has better merchandise.

Much easier to defend your shopping choice when you don't make a point of "political" shopping. You can buy at Costco or Wallmart, Starbucks or Chick-fil-a, depending not on the political affiliations of the companies' owners but instead on your own preferences as a consumer.

It's only when you start with that "WalMart is killing small businesses!" and "McDonalds doesn't pay living wages!" crap that you have to start analyzing everything (and discovering that no company is a paragon of virtue, anyway).

The brand is "upper Midwest small town". You betcha.

Identifying with the Kohl brand name emits a philo-Semitic vibe to Walker's Israel-loving Evangelical base. Many people perceive Hillary as pro-Palestinian.

Maybe, but "Kohl" is also a Germanic-sounding name, especially in the midwest, and it may instead symbolize solidarity with our central European allies against encroachment from the eastern Slavs.

Walker is going to drive the Kohl's brand right into the dirt.

Rich is bad, really rich is good, if you are liberal.

Money in politics is bad, lots of money in politics is good, if used for liberal purposes.

Re shopping: does Hillary! even "shop"? I wanna see pictures and take witness testimony before I believe it.

I hope not.

Walker talks of Kohl's as if it were a cheap dollar store. I wonder if they mind?

Considering Hillary's pet marsupial Huma has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood that is a rational assumption.

They were more than likely cops who support Walker who invaded homes. Or perhaps under the direction of Tea Party Hero Sheriff David Clarke. The article isn't clear.

Are you against all search and seizures? Or just this one?

The plural of anecdote isn't data, but there's an abandoned Kohl's distribution warehouse in my industrial park, I wonder what will happen with it every time I go for a walk around the drive. It's a relatively new park, they built the distribution warehouse from scratch and then abandoned it year or two late later, while the rest of the park still was in the process of being built up. That pretty much screams "disastrously misaligned expansion plan" to me.

Walmart is actually WAY more leftwing than critics realize. They have sucked up to Progs for years.

And I never frequent Starbucks, largely because coffee tastes like something strained out of a butthole.

It doesn't matter what the company is actually like, what matters is what the progressive hive mind thinks of the company. Target > Walmart, Costco > Sam's Club, Starbucks > Chick-fil-a. They're not sure what to think about Whole Foods yet.

"And I never frequent Starbucks, largely because coffee tastes like something strained out of a butthole."

I'm no coffee afficianado--seems that the main draw of Starbucks is their locations. When I get a drink there it's a heavily flavored frappe thing that hides whatever coffee is in there. It could be Sanka for all I know.

My guess is that Kohl's is not thrilled about this, as it will piss off a large percentage of their customers if the store becomes identified with Walker. If Herb notices at all, he's probably slightly amused.

Of course the current Kohl's is not owned by the family, and is in a different line of business. Groceries to Department store.

Blame others for what you do: Check.

Throw out a fallacy ( false choice ): Check.

Two points for your progressive check list. You've earned your cookie today!

Thanks for verifying that you really really enjoy using the state to punish thoughts.

Who conducted the raids, wise one?

Is the Republican Special Prosecutor, and Republican county DA's working together with progressives to take out Walker & Co?

Whoa, if true!

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Never seen Garage offer proof that the Special Prosecutor or any DA's are "Republican" in any way shape or form. We already know one "republican" he used to cite as an example was not conducting ANY investigation and everyone else was a partisan union-loving mob. But who knows really?

Why would Chisholm seek such broad powers to investigate a year-old embezzlement claim with a known suspect? Because the Milwaukee "County executive, Scott Walker, had by that time become the leading Republican candidate for governor. District Attorney Chisholm was a Democrat, a very partisan Democrat."

In the case of Cynthia Archer, it was FBI & Dane County Sheriff's Office.
