"When I started, I was thinking of how there’s a lot of animosity toward diverse communities of people in the world right now."

"So I wanted to draw something that I hoped would show that we can all get along well, and that it’s possible for us to be happy with each other. I want everyone try to be more open, accepting, and respectful to people. You don’t know what they’ve been through – and they don’t know what you’ve been through — so we all deserve respect from each other."

Said Sarah Harrison, the Connecticut 10th grader who won this year's Doodle 4 Google Contest.

Two handicapped people are pushed beyond the outward edges, and are a step behind the diverse able-bodied group: no one has their arm around them. Indeed, their bodies are turned away from the center the standing people create.

A third handicapped boy is at the edge of the standing group: he is missing an arm (at first I thought it was just poor drawing, but it seems to be a stump).

These three boys are the only white males.

Ostracized to varying degrees, and symbolically crippled.

I don't know: maybe one of the girls has a yeast infection, so it all equals out.

On the plus side - heartened to see that this was by a 10th grader. It's OK for a 10th grade girl to be silly and gooey.

On the down side - it's completely typical of Google doodle goodthink schmaltz, which is not, afaik, all done by 10th graders.

Sadly, the people with "coexist" stickers on their Priuses (or old Volvos or Subarus) aren't 10th graders, either.

Meanwhile, the left demonstrated their tolerance again at Congressman Chris Stewart's town hall meeting last night here in Utah, with the state Democrat party chair showing up and handing out Russian money to demonstrate that Trump is bought by the Russians.

Of course, they were quite polite in their screaming, yelling, waving of mass produced signs, shouting down, flinging things, etc. Your bog standard Democrat Riot light.

Stewart asked them point blank if they thought that their behavior was helping them win converts. They shouted him down.

The pictures are quite astonishing. Try this link for a sample image: Link here.

It's exactly what you might expect from a Democrat sponsored semi-riot.

What do the shadows on the wall behind the group symbolize? I know it has something to do with world peace, but I don't get them. One looks like the bat symbol, and another one looks like cuckold horns....... How can you tell who's gay and who's straight. Perhaps if the Muslim figure were shown stabbing one of the other figures, the inclusivity of the group would be further emphasized.......How come Hindus and Buddhists don't have an easily recognized religious symbol, but Google does?

It is, of course, a contradiction in terms to say that you will not tolerate intolerance. In fact the statement explicitly endorses intolerance.
If you have all those people in the drawing -- people with religious differences, the handicapped, different ethnicities -- and they are not allowed to have conflicts over what makes them different from one another, what are they allowed to have conflict over? There are people, individuals and in groups, who have narrow differences of interest that we supposedly still celebrate. For example, you want to steal my money. I want to stop you from stealing my money.

The rest of them probably do not add up to 5% combined.

It's twee and silly, but she's a kid; give her a break. She draws better than I ever could, so there's that.

If I have a gripe about this, it would be that we currently do too much encouraging young people to comment on things they don't understand.

"A peaceful future" is a really, really complicated concept. It's not just people putting their arms around each other. 15 year olds are better off reading and absorbing and learning than being told how much "their voices matter" etc.

chuck said...

Boom! Oh well, bad luck.

Misplaced makes an important point. For decades we have held up youth as the epitome of wisdom when it has been clear throughout the millennia that wisdom comes from age and experience. I doubt that any of us here would assert that we were wiser when we were young than we are now.

What animosity is she babbling about? Every day, we are told about people of diversity (which is a great Orwellian word) being targets of terrible acts, which rarely occur, and when they do, they occur in deep blue places like college campuses, Berkeley, etc. Nearly every time, they get exposed as a hoax.

Social Justice Warrior types are shocked because they believed their own bullshit -- that white people, especially men, are inherently evil, and diversity had grown so much that they would be able to stick it to the bad white people forever. Instead, the vast majority of people of any particular group are not that hateful, nor did they have the numbers they thought they did. Tough pill for them to swallow.
