"While some Kazakhs have accused Dilshod of disrespecting the elderly..."

"... the message of [his grandmother] Maryam’s [rap] songs is clear: love, value and respecting your parents."

This latest generation of grandchildren has strong bonds with their grandparents. Or they're happy to attach to someone else's too.

My grandmother is a celebrity at Bruins games. She gets the loudest cheers when she's on the jumbotron. When she rides the crowded elevator with Andy Brickley she gets all the hugs and selfies.

If my grandmother were still around, she could be a social media star. She had a lot to say and lots of energy as you can see in my edit of home movies.

By "my grandmother," I mean Mom, my paternal grandmother.

I had another grandmother, unsurprisingly, but she would not have had on-camera star quality (in the time that I knew her, for health reasons).

Grandchildren always get along great with their grandmothers! They have a common enemy!
