There is nothing new.

i have decided not to watch the inauguration at the local grocery store. More interesting will be a trip to the Kinsey Institute Gallery tomorrow. Until the 23rd is an exhibit:

Sex and Presidential Politics
materials from the entire latter half of the 20th century.
(the materials help scholars and researchers explore all factors and forces that help shape US Electoral politics.

It's supposed to be humorus and artistic, too.

Remember when y'all were going after John Edwards' "two Americas" speech? The 'stock answer' was "I don't see two Americas, I see one."

So now that Obama is preaching unity--- well, some people are never happy except when they have a gripe.

Quayle:

I wonder how Michelle is gonna like these chicks slobbering all over her man.

Well, she does have Hillary Clinton now in the 'inner circle,' she can get some "learn from my mistakes" type of motherly wisdom.

Eh.

I have a ton of work to do tomorrow. So I'll miss the inauguration. It's great to have an excuse.

That is perhaps the most disingenuous thing I've read from you here yet, Eli. Why don't you go back over some of the things you and your ilk have said over the years and get back to me?
e pluribus unum has always been with us thank you and it isn't going to come about tomorrow because you said so--sheesh!

Maybe it's the use of tired metaphors with not even a potential reflection in actual policy that's being objected to.

My wife was talking with a friend of hers, a grade school teacher who was terribly excited about how wonderful it was all going to be and gushed And he's just so handsome!.

My wife cut her short and said Listen to you. You're 50 years old for God's sake.

For a minute our friend let us in on what it's like among schoolteachers, where it's all harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding; no more falsehoods or derisions, golden living dreams of visions, mystic crystal revelation, and the mind's true liberation.

Ah, sour grapes. Girl's gotta make a living, right? She's fun--has a nice energy.

To chickenlittle, who thinks the boobs are fake: there are actually women who look like that, and who are perfectly nice and genuine people.

God Bless America. God Bless Obama. God Bless Obama Girl. And God Bless Althouse.

David said...

Dust Bunny: Are you feeling superior or inferior to Obama Girl when you call her a bimbo. Or can’t you tell?

Here are some definitions of bimbo:

A woman regarded as vacuous or as having an exaggerated interest in her sexual appeal.

a term that emerged in popular English language usage in the early 20th Century to describe an often attractive, yet unintelligent woman. The usage of this term began in the United States as early as 1919. The 1929 silent film Desert Nights describes a cheap female crook as a bimbo

a young woman indulged by rich and powerful older men

a very stupid woman; an airhead

I suppose on scant evidence I could say that you, Dustbunny, qualify as a bimbo under some of those definitions. That would be a guess and an insult though, just as your characterization of the young lady is.

chickelit said...

David: It seems to me that OG qualifies under definition 1.

DBQ, based on what I've read of her here, doesn't fit any of your definitions.

What was you point anyway?

DBrooks17 said...

The completely unrealistic expectations that so many seem to have thrust upon Obama are going to prove nearly as big a problem for him as the actual demands of the job. He, and his campaign, encouraged and abetted these expectations, and it's not unreasonable to see a possible future where they will prove to be his undoing. When the economy worsens significantly(and it will), when he doesn't heal the afflicted, sight the sightless, feed the hungry, end the war, close Guantanamo, convict members of the Bush Administration, pay the rent, and so on, he's going to have some very, very disappointed folks on his hands. Wiser, more mature folks, perhaps, but disappointed, and angry people. And, in spite of the best efforts of the media and those around Obama to continue to blame Bush for it all, they aren't going to have Bush to blame anymore. At some point, people are going to say, "Gosh, Bush has been out of office a long time, and things still stink. In fact, lots of things are worse. What's up with that?" At that point, political and governing reality is going to raise its ugly head---and questions are going to be asked for which this group will have no easy answers. It will be President Obama, and he'll have all the responsibility and blame. To paraphrase, hell has no fury like the politically naive scorned.

Synova said...

You know, I can see it coming. Just like after Bush won election and everyone who didn't vote for him seemed to think that because the election was so close that he should do everything to their preferences and forget those who did vote for him.

It's cool to wave the flag again.

It's so very cool to be bipartisan again... no red state or blue state... cool to be American. Not before, but now it is.

Whoever made anyone stop waving the flag? Whoever decided that it wasn't cool to be American? To *whom* was it more important to make so very sure no one thought they might possibly *not* hate Bush with every fiber of their BushHilter hating being that it was worth not promoting their country?

*pant* Oh... ooohhhh... I don't have to tell people I'm Canadian anymore!!! Oh, fabrous joy! Oh, spontaneous Orgasm!

And no thought, no clue, no conception that *now* there are still just slightly under half of voters who did NOT vote for their guy, who do not think that "liberal" policies are the same thing as "bipartisan" policies. Who disagree and will disagree *because* they disagree.

I don't think that "we" are going to stop waving the flag, though, or start claiming to be Canadian.

I suppose that's a difference.

The Crack Emcee said...

"I'll bet she voted in the general election."

Wrong: Obama Girl's too stupid to vote.

Eli Blake,

"Now that Obama is preaching unity--- well, some people are never happy except when they have a gripe."

After 8 years of the ugliest partisan nonsense most of us political watchers have ever seen, Democrats should just shut up and enjoy this party the rest of us didn't asked to be invited to, because every word out of your mouths, at this point, can't help but sound like the most hypocritical B.S. in history:

We should all pull together? What about you guys over the last 8 years?

We should root for the president to do well? What about you guys over the last 8 years?

And so on. Just be quiet - you've earned it.

Pogo,

"For a minute our friend let us in on what it's like among schoolteachers, where it's all harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding; no more falsehoods or derisions, golden living dreams of visions, mystic crystal revelation, and the mind's true liberation."

By now you must know my thing, so you're teasing me, right?

Ann Althouse said...

"I hate that vocal-distortion special effect there sooooo much..."

I did too, but I think it was a cool idea to use it to impose the melody into the speech, which they kind of managed to do. It's just that the result sounds pretty ugly.

DBrooks17,

Oh, there are easy answers and I can't wait until that can of worms is opened.

David said...

My point is that we gleefully criticize the mainstream media for ignorance and bias. Then we show no hesitation in branding a woman we know virtually nothing about as a fake, a bimbo, stupid, etc. because she is good looking and trying to get a little career mileage out of some silly and lighthearted videos.

At least you said "her boobs look fake" rather than that they "are" fake. And yes I understand that by wearing skimpy outfits she opens her boobs to comment and speculation. But why take the bait?

As to OG being a bimbo under #1, certainly you have no way of knowing that she is vacuous. All you know is that she plays someone who is dazzled by Obama on a video. As to having an "exaggerated interest in her sexual appeal," how do you know that? All you know is that she has sexual appeal and uses it to play a young woman smitten by Obama.

As to Dust Bunny, my point was that I would have no justification in calling her (for example) stupid, even though she said something I found prejudiced and unfair. Nor does DB have any basis to use the b word.

It's just a pretty girl, people. Lighten up.

Synova said...

I'm not entirely convinced that her intent isn't clever satire.

Or at the very least, a bit of poking fun at what she's doing while she does it. I mean... she starts out with saying Obama had promised something and he says "No, I didn't."

There were a couple of parts later that made me suspect it, also.

David said...

Crack: "Wrong: Obama Girl's too stupid to vote."

No, you are wrong. That article you reference is about her not voting in the primary. I will refrain from calling you stupid because you did not distinguish between the primary and the general election.

Is chivalry truly dead on this site? Will no one else defend this fair maiden?

David said...

Synova, yes, satire. Someone gets it. Not great satire to be sure but worthy of a laugh or three. If we could get out of the censorious mire.

Obama Girl Amber Lee Ettinger is from Pennsylvania.

Yet she clings to Obama more than to her guns or Bible.

She was Miss Howard Stern TV in June 2007.

They need to do a gay(er) version of this with an Obama Boy. We have a few on here who need to make their own video.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

David: Bimbo according to definition number 1 and probably number 3 as well, judging by the boob remarks. :-D She probably voted for Obama in the election even if she couldn't be bothered in the Primary.

I'm mostly ashamed and embarrassed by the video.

The President of the United States, even Obama whom I do not even remotely like, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, as the office warrants. I'm embarrassed and ashamed that this twit is throwing herself like some slutty bar rag at the President for her own self aggrandizement. In some circles that would be called whoring.

I'm embarrassed and ashamed that the talking heads in the liberal media and the so called journalists act like they have what I have heard elsewhere a "slobbering love affair" with Obama. They have lost all objectivity and what little shreds of professionalism that they may have had to begin with. (which isn't much)

I'm embarrassed and afraid that we have lost our freaking sanity as a nation when we treat the person who is the Commander in Chief and who holds our lives and security in his hand, as some sort of stud muffin heavenly saviour when we don't know hardly anything about him. How superficial and how shallow can we be? Very evidently.

And by the way. There is no such thing as bipartisan. All that Red State/Blue State kumbaya is a pipe dream.

Methadras said...

Bimbo or not. Well, you get the idea. Thank you.

David said...

Queen, Your Majesty, I repeat: It's just a pretty girl. Lighten up.

As to shallowness, I don't think it was intended to have much depth.

But if you wanted to, I suppose you could say that Obama Girl is the symbol of the American Public, in love with Obama and giddy over his novelty and attractiveness and looking somewhat foolish in the process.

You could also conclude that when Obama Girl says to the President Elect "you promised" and he says "No, I didn't" we are being shown a brilliant archetype of modern American politics.

And you could puzzle about what Obama Girl/American Public is getting into when she agrees to "just one" and why she/we would be happy with a tiny morsel, just a single song, when so many promises were made and now he denies them.

But, as I said, it's really just a silly video with a pretty girl. No more meaning. Nothing else to see.

David said...

"Obama Girl Amber Lee Ettinger is from Pennsylvania."

Must be why I like her. I'm from Pennsylvania (originally) too.
