Coffee time!

Don't forget!

Cappucino

More!

Okay!

Chris and the coffee cup

That's more like it!
The 55 mice used in the University of South Florida study had been bred to develop symptoms of Alzheimer's disease....

When the mice were tested again after two months, those who were given the caffeine performed much better on tests measuring their memory and thinking skills and performed as well as mice of the same age without dementia.

Those drinking plain water continued to do poorly on the tests.

Sounds good to me. Though I have a financial conflict of interest.

My dad told me that coffee can ruin one's eyesight.

On the flip side, it can also help to reduce liver damage that results from alcohol consumption.

Too hot for coffee today.

The bottom picture would make a cool album cover. Sort of a pastoral Pink Floyd cover

Coffee makes me go in the morning. That alone makes it a miracle drink.

Caffeine and nicotine are cognitive enhancers, sort of the original smart drugs, and this has been known for some time. Whether the effects are worth the jitters and the smoke is another matter. But it's no coincidence that coffee and cigarettes are the stereotypical accessories for writers on deadline.

I liked the study that coffee drinkers at night had twice as much sex as non-drinkers. We assumed it was because the did not fall asleep when their heads hit the pillow, but instead talked awhile until they expressed their physical love along with their shared emotions. Down with Decaf.

Here I thought this was a post about that number between Astaire and Lucille Bremer from Yolanda and the Thief!

Seen the study that traditionalguy mentioned. I thought it was because something about coffee (or caffeine in general) increased sex drive and perhaps blood flow.

It may work for Alzheimer's but it doesn't seem to do squat for regular dementia. My mom goes through 2 pots a day but has no short term memory.

Theo...Clearly we need Stimulus Money to re-do that study with a really large sample, and no double blind stuff, because I for one like to see what I am staying awake for.

Please try an iced coffee. Maybe even splurge and have an iced mocha.

This study of 1,400 human beings (some of whom happened to develop Alzheimer's or dementia during the 21-year period of the study) had a similar conclusion.

I love coffee in the morning, and then beer in the afternoon. It kinda evens things out. Nothing lost, nothing gained.

A good cup of coffee can make you love the morning; but a bad cup of coffee can make you hate the brewer.

Both.

They've cured cancer in mice plenty of times, so don't get your hopes up.

JAC : This study of 1,400 human beings ...

I don't know if I like that study; there's no way to rule out self-selection. Maybe people who are on the verge of getting dementia don't like caffeine because it makes them even more scatter-brained.

It's hard to get really good data on this. How can you do a double-blind experiment? People will know if they've had decaf or not. Even the Folger's Crystals people wont make that claim.

traditionalguy said...

Titus...How can we answer you unless we know more about the horse. What is his name? Is he an introverted, lonely horse? Or is he a sociable animal horsing around all the time? Is he more of a Maverick type? Who are this horse's sire and mare? Does he have an equine family pedigree? Or is he a mere trash horse from the country? So much goes into thinking about nothing but a horse that interbreeds with men who drink coffee.

rhhardin said...

You have to drink a lot of decaf to stay awake.

The presence of coffee, moreso than beer, convinces me that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

Then there's Sanka, that unholy beverage, made by filtering potato soup through Satan's underpants. Never was made more clear the presence of the Deceiver, Father of lies, the angel of the bottomless pit.

That's a mighty fine trompe l'oeil there Chris is interacting with. I want to do one sometime. It'd be easy. I'd pick a blank wall behind a small deciduous tree then paint autumn-colored leaves on the wall filling the shape of the tree. That way, when the real leaves fell it would fake out viewers across the street.

I still say the Aeropress makes the best coffee I've ever tasted.

It produces a cup or three of espresso. For American style coffee, plain heated water is added, which runs counter to all that is canon about coffee. The idea is for hot water to steep the grounds for a few seconds then be pressed through the grounds quickly. Steeping too long for drip, or recirculating, picks up excessive bitter alkaloids.

I make three cups at once and it always goes cold before I can finish it. The weird thing is, throughout the day, after up to two or three re-heatings in the microwave, the coffee tastes even better, developing a chocolate flavor most likely due to the sugar, milk, and vanilla I add at the beginning. Yessiree, it's either an Aeropress vanilla latte trentadu for me, or it's nuth'in. Possibly tea, or a large Mason jar of chocolate milk with malted barley blended in.

In other news, unrelated to murals and coffee, Apple Corp. gave me a free laptop battery today, saving me $100. So that's something.

No tea drinker would ever get fucked by a horse.

Tradguy, it's sire and dam. A mare is any ol' female horse.

Jeez, nipples and pubes on public mural. Chris' head is fortuitously placed.

That was probably out of ignorance. The experienced zoophile would have known to use a device to limit the horse's penetration.

(I thought it might be a good idea to let you know about that before you got yourself killed.)

What is your favorite coffee? Mine is Caribou Sumatra; and no, that has nothing to do with politics. The best home coffee maker I have found is a Hamilton Beech Brewstation.

My favorite coffees are dark roasts - currently I like a thing called Evangeline blend, from Community Coffee, an old Louisiana coffee company. I don't like Starbucks much because they so often scorch or over-roast their beans. I like Cafe du Monde coffee and chicory, too. And any nice, hot, rich dark cup of coffee someone kindly makes for me is appreciated, even if it doesn't reach an ideal of perfection.

We brew a pot, fix our cups, then pour the rest in a thermos for a treat later in the day.

Pogo's right - coffee is evidence of God's love.
