Giant snowstorm hits D.C. making it the biggest December accumulation in 70 years.

Wow! I hope Obama made it home from the big blizzard global warming conference okay.

If Democrats said their anti-global warming proposals would result in Washington D.C. being covered in glaciers, maybe I would have supported them!

The psy-ops media are starting to test their new meme for this news cycle that all this early record snowfall is another sign of the weather gone wild proving that Climate Change Deniers should be ashamed of themselves. They will just put away their the "earth is heating up to a disaster" talk like Christmas decorations after New Years, and start in with the latest cooling crisis that the UN will solve in exchange for all of our money. But the science is settled like a law of physics...that is of psy-ops.

The snow storm is competing with what was the biggest story of the week: we finally got rid of Vinny Cerrato. Ah, relief.

Unfortunately we still have Dan Snyder.

The cognitive dissonance of the AGW crowd - especially the president - is alarming.

He's definitely working to win the award for being the stupidest leader in my lifetime.

The good news: 57% of voters nationwide refuse to be snowed.

HT said...

One unexpected thing about all this snow - since I'm stuck inside, I notice the indoor light is different, a softer white. It's really neat.

Mr. Forward said...

Possibly the same 57%.

NBC/WSJ poll: 57% say the Iraq war has been successful, versus 40% who say it has been unsuccessful.

First, for those not too advanced in age, we will either see the results of global warming in our lifetime or not.

Second, for those who want to stop GW, if it exists, they are delusional. If it exists, the minor reductions will have no impact. The whole debate is a waste of time, because there is no way this Country or any developing country will significantly reduce pollution.

Third, the fact that it snows in one place or not, neither proves or disproves global warming.

Fourth, while the rate or impact GW may be way off, it isn't such a wild concept to think that all the pollution man has spewed into the atmosphere in the last 100 years doesn't make any difference. Just sit in traffic on the 405 for an hour. That goes on every day in multiple major cities around the globe. China is a cess pool.

I had a super conservative pro-nuclear science teacher in 11th grade. He taught about climate change in 1978. Although, at the time he believed acid ran would block the sun, thus freezing the planet.

The debate is entirely misplaced. It's clear that we are messing around with our environment one way or another. There will be some cost to this. No one individually or collectively is going to change their ways for the sake of global warming. My next door neighbors ride their bikes to work, but then take weekend trips driving hundred of miles.

We should do our best to get off our oil addiction for economic reaons, with the collateral benefit of reducing carbon emissions.

We should follow Iran's lead and go nuclear. Iran's smart enough to know that oil is a valuable commodity. We aren't and fund terrorists every day that we don't go nuclear and develop small electric cars for cities like LA.

A free weather observation from Arlington, Virginia:

Yes, it's been snowing. Several inches on the ground already. But as of now (almost 10:30 a.m. EST), while it's snowing, it's no blizzard, at least not yet. Will we get the worst-case scenario of 20 inches of more? That remains to be seen, as lazy TV reporters would say.

Sadly Nelson caved for an extra year of federal funding for his state.

What is remarkable is that there has been no actual power producing project started in 2009 with any renewable or green basis. We would all be happy to shut down the coal plants if there was something to replace them, even if the cost of the new power were higher. You can't commit to shutting off your electricity sources without the ability to replace them. It's like quitting a job before you have the new one. Stupid.
as soon as it became clear that there would be no new oil exploration in the US, the price of oil doubled. Gasoline costs as much or more than it did four years ago when the economy was pumping full tilt. I don't see too many affordable electric cars in the showrooms, and there is no means to generate the electricity needed to power them. Hydrogen cars sound wonderful, except they produce water vapor which is a much more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. Millions of water spewing cars would be worse than what we now have. Politics aside, this is lunacy, plain and simple.

Yeah, not getting some offensive linemen last Spring should have been a hanging offense.

I wonder how many of the Honorables will be able to make it in today. Also, I hear Lieberman's gone home, so Dingy Harry only has 59 votes if everybody else makes it in.

God is voting and the Demos better start watching the returns ;)

Mr. Buddwing may not be seeing a blizzard in Arlington as of fifteen minutes ago but I'm a bit farther out into Northern Virginia and the snow is coming down heavy and there's a strong wind. Which equals a blizzard according to every definition I know.

Let's see, a blizzard in Copenhagen, Barack Obama flies home into a blizzard (unusual for DC in December -- our heaviest snowfalls have traditionally come down around President's Day).

I'm mistaken in my atheism. Not only does God exist, but He (She?) has one heck of sense of humor.

Remember last year when gas was at $4, Pelosi said that drilling in the US was not going to help, because it would take 10 years to bring those oil resources on line. Of course that is what the greens said 10 years before and 10 years from now.

since it can't help instantly, it would ruin our environment without purpose. Far better to pay the Brazilians to ruin theirs.

Obama talked about Nukes and oil wells to counter McCain. Havent heard much lately.

My comment was that there were no green power production started during the year. The comment about oil exploration/production is germane because we still need to use it for a while and it would be cheaper if the markets were looking at additional American supply down the road. We will always need oil, since plastic is made from it as well as tires, while lots of things need lubrication (KY Jelly is too expensive)

Sam U...What psy-ops factory sent you to burp up the old vomit that a warming cycle means burning of our abundant and life sustaining fossil fuels are the proven cause. But a cooling cycle, that you now want to ignore as mere weather, DOES prove that our abundant and life sustaining fossil fuel usage never was the cause of the former warming cycle. Disprove that truth if you can, oh great secret scientist of faked proxy measuring of the past temperatures.

agree, but want to expand and clarify 2 points you made that may escape some.

1. Oil will always be needed for advanced societies, because ultimately it's irreplaceable as a precursor in a wide variety of industrial uses. That's why they call it the petro-chemical industry, not the gas refining business.

2. The oil futures market is very sensitive to the threat of new supply coming on line. A new supply lowers price several years before it arrives in the market. The presence of new US supply doubly impacts price downward as the market prices the supply directly and implictly lowers it again to factor in the increased freedom in US foriegn policy of ME oil independence.

Well, it could be worse, Drill Sgt. You could be in Virginia Beach and measure 4 inches on your dick.

Just got in from trying out my Christmas present -- wife bought me a heavy-duty snow blower. The front opening measures 18 inches tall by 22 inches wide. In most places on my driveway and walkways the snow was just below the top of the opening and in some places the wind had pushed it well above.

Meade, if your Anne is 1/10 as far-sighted as my wife, you will be one lucky guy.

I brought the bowl of my backyard bird bath in for the winter a couple weeks ago but I note that the snow is just below the top of the bird bath's base -- so in my back yard it's at least 25" deep. And still coming down.

I have to wonder about the political savvyness of the AGW crowd to hold a global warming conference in a Scandanavian country in the middle of winter. Did they not think there would be disconnect galore on this?

Yes, that is one of the Obama's rhetorical tricks, isn't it? Like when he said he would "take a look at" tort reform in connection with his healthcare proposal. Phrases like "We need to look at . . . " and "I'm willing to consider . . . " are our leader's way of making some people believe he is open and fair-minded when he has no intention of giving opposing views any consideration whatsoever.

A DC friend of mine said 26" 2 hrs ago and she's running a 4 wheeler to get ppl to work at Sibley Hospital. Iowa girl originally. We know winter.

HT said...

Wow 26 inches, that's a lot! I didn't think it was that much. When I went out earlier, it was about 14 inches, plus the snow drifts make it hard to measure. That's nice of your friend.

Hopefully there will be some plowing soon. We're gonna have to get moving again soon.

The Drill SGT said...

I measured 27.5 on my deck right now. it all looks flat, but I may get a bit of blown roof snow.

serious snow however. 6th biggest in DC history earlier this evening.

It's stopped here for now, though they predict a bit more flurries for 12 hours

HT said...

16.6" says the weather guy on channel 4. Two years in a row, Winter in DC has had some special moments.

It's nice when people come together like they do. There was a snow ball fight at 14th and U, and a guy who was driving a Hummer got out, pissed, and pulled a gun. Turns out he is a detective with the PD.
