Ann, are you still using a Sony Cyber-shot camera? I seem to remember you saying that once before. Or do you have some newer model? Your photos are always both excellent and interesting.

I liked the "Father William" poem, which my Mom used to read to me when I was a boy from her mother's Childcraft books from the 1920s. It was a favorite of hers along with such poems as "Jest 'Fore Christmas," "A Tragic Story," and "The Potato's Dance". And of course, there was "The Pirate Don Durk of Dowdee." Boys love anything about pirates, so it was a good choice for bedtime readingg.

Another entry in the growing list of right wing violence and threats of violence. This one has a happy ending, however, as Hal Turner is now looking at jail time.

Silence from the right wing on death threats, of course.

A federal jury in Brooklyn, N.Y., took less than two hours to find Turner, 48, of North Bergen, N.J., guilty of using his blog to terrorize the judges for upholding handgun bans in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill.

Turner was found guilty of a single count of threatening to assault and murder the chief judge and two other judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit by writing in a June 2009 blog post that they "deserve to be killed" for a ruling that Turner feared would open the door for local gun bans across the country.

His publishing of their photos and courthouse addresses, along with a map, the following day was further evidence of his intent to intimidate and impede the judges in the performance of their duties, prosecutors said.

Let's try that "Jest 'Fore Christmas" link again...

And now my other comment disappeared! Alas, I've been spamblocked! Oh, the irony! :-(

My guess is that AL is not only not afraid of right wing violence, in concert with his comrades he is doing everything possible to incite right wing violence in order to have an excuse to declare martial law and suppress all haters.

And AL's point is .. . . . .

"And AL's point is .. . . . ."

Wingnuts should all be jailed. It's for the greater good and the children.

Or if he had a point he would make it, but the left doesn't really have one that makes sense to anyone anymore. Thus we get the continuous "racist, violent, homophobe, mean, greedy, stupid, etc...

I was reading about Roe V Wade and the right to medical care, and I wondered:

Do you have the right to refuse life saving medical care even if it would clearly and certainly save your life?

Would such a thing be technically or legally considered suicide?

How would such an end effect your life insurance benifit?

Alpha, I think that you have Hal Turner confused with someone else.

You seem to consider him right-wing. That's odd, because he has the same opinions on Israel as you and Ritzy Brassiere, a couple of self-professed liberals. (And your compatriot Cedarford, who's a little more difficult to categorize on a linear spectrum).

And he once worked for Pat Buchanan, the favorite Republican of garage mahal, another self-professed liberal.

Why would you consider him right-wing? Because he's apparently in favor of the right to keep and bear arms?

I guess the Black Panther Party is right wing too, then.

1. Click on any of my photos to see which camera I used. The new one is a Panasonic, which I decided to try after having 2 Sonys go bad within a 12 month period. (Not really Sony's fault -- I used and abused those cameras an awful lot.)

2. Not the same mushroom the deer ate. I have a ton of mushroom pictures from the last few days. Really saw a lot of weird ones up north. Decided not to nibble any of them.

Alpha,

Threatening judges is not good, but there are first amendment issues here.

This conviction may or may not be justified. I do not know. But there is a fine line between true threats of violence and OTT rhetoric. This particular defendant may have lacked credibility so the jury wacked him. But quoting Thomas Jefferson and saying a federal judge should die, while not something I would ever say or support (rhetorically, let alone actually), should not be a crime unless it was really intended to get those judges attacked.

Maybe / maybe not. You might have tried one and this is all a strange trip you're enjoying now, while your bodies actually lie in a bed of moss surrounded by shooms and the Lilliputians who planted them.

When I notice you post to provoke antagonism, and only to provoke, you go on my shit list and get skipped thereafter.

You already know you are not changing anybody's mind so the whole thing is masturbatory. All your links are to places I already avoid for their stupidity. You have nothing to show me or teach me not even nuggets of useful language. You are not interesting to me so not worth the time reading. In my case you are wasting your proselytizing effort. Don't bother responding directly to me, I won't read that either. Additionally, the posts that respond to you are even less interesting so upon detection those too are skipped. Just say'n.

Who are you? I don't know nor do I care. You are who I avoid like a plague. Now cheer yourself, Asshole, and have some Maui sourdough.

Chip, have you considered making a card with a pyramid?

Lots of weird mushrooms all over the state this year, I've noticed. All the rain has brought out the "lurkers" like a Althouse thread on the Tea Party. Speaking of which, the most balance article on said party I've seen in the mainstream media in USA Today yesterday.

bagoh20 said...

Yes Calypso, that article seems very accurate for a change, and really answers questions anyone might have about what the movement really is. I think few Tea Partiers would disagree with much written there.

It's also quite different from the general impression portrayed by both the media on the left and the mouths on the right who both push an un-serious caricature. The Tea Party is serious, focused, and most of all, decentralized. A really new kind of political movement.

I think AL is under the impression that only "right wingers" want the right to own and carry guns.

So instead of doing his homework he jumps to conclusions and ends up with egg on his face.

I don't know who "Hal Turner" is, but if Pastafarian's correct that he's a Buchanan crony then he's probably hanging with the Maddow/Olberman/Matthews crew at MSNBC and people like GasRage Fopahs here at Althouse. The fact that no one has heard of him, paid attention to him, or agrees with him is probably why there's silence from the right wing on him.

Speaking of political death threats, were either of those two Democrat politicans who recently made similar death wishes against Sarah Palin arrested, AlphaLiberal? I know one of them resigned from office, but I think both he and the leftist nutbar candidate are still free and roaming the streets.

Will you denounce these Democrats and demand their arrests for making the same sort of death wishes you condemn Hal Turner for, AlphaLiberal, or do you choose to ignore, encourage, and excuse left wing violence and threats of violence?

Patrick Fitzgerald cares more about federal powers and privileges than individual rights. That is a problem that is not easily defined as left or right.

Bag;

Yes. Now that assumes you have intact decision-making capacity, you understand the ramifications of your decision and have no evidence of a thought disorder (i.e. you're not convinced you were placed here by Satan to destroy the world and you've decided to save the world by killing yourself)

Oh, but I am convinced of just that, and I'm just waiting for the right time.
