"Clearly the reporters were conspiring to set up some type of smear of Joe Miller."

A shocking report at Big Journalism:
With glee, they even cite a recent controversy over an incident involving the Rand Paul campaign, while discussing how they would spread the story via social media after whatever incident they had in mind came off.
The Washington Post casts a critical eye at the report:
[I]t's unclear from the recording precisely what, if anything, was being plotted. And now the station is adamantly denying the charges, claiming the audio was clipped and taken out of the fuller context. KTVA general manager Jerry Bever sends over a statement claiming the "complete recording was about what others might be able to do to cause disruption within the Miller campaign."...

"It's unfortunate that this recording has happened....

"While the recording is real, the allegations are untrue. The recording was the result of a cell phone not being hung up...."
Thanks for the info that it is unfortunate and real.

Well, alrightythen. I think it's only fair to posit my speculation as to what's happening at CBS station KTVA:

Many of the reporters and staff at KTVA, in Anchorage, AK, may be registered sex offenders organized by Sen. Lisa Murkowski. These KTVA people have shown a tendency towards taking their pleasure by raping young boys or dead girls when Sen. Murkowski is in attendance, buck naked and fondling a fossilized walrus ivory dildo chanting to, and rubbing, her lost, dark, evil godhead.

Now, this is, of course, pure speculation. I just wanted to get it out there.

I've known journalists. Journalists have been friends of mine. You guys are no journalists.

Reporters have done this sort of thing for generations. The difference today is that it is harder to keep things private.

I think I'll just reserve judgment until I read the Columbia Journalism Review article that says the reporters behaved properly and Breitbart is an asshole for exposing their private conversations.

They wouldn't have done this, or issued that lame excuse, if they thought they could get killed for it.

Just sayin'.

I'm withholding judgment here. From reading the transcripts, it sounds like, at worst, they were just joking around. I'm a member of my local young Republican group, and we make cracks like that all of the time, just to lighten things up (we also have the opposite jokes, that certain members are really plants from one of the rival groups.) It's all in good fun, and no one would even be interested in really carrying out anything.

Of course, it shows what side they're on, but is that really news?

OF course, it's always unfortunate when you get caught.

This election is as much a reaction against the left-wing media as the Democrats. People are sick and tired of this yellow journalism shit.

You love it, right?

For years, the Lefty journos always tried to catch the other side in something that could be trumpeted as the appearance of impropriety, particularly with the sleazy tactic known as ambush journalism.

Now, these smug morons are ambushing themselves.

Beautiful!

It's laughable to claim the complete recording discusses what others might do. They're obviously discussing what they would do. They are probably joking, probably having one of those "if I only had the nerve" conversations, but they are definitely talking about themselves. And serious or not, jokes reveal plenty about the joker.

Whaddaya expect when the first thing journalism students say when asked why they are attending journalism school is "I want to change the world."

Post says of their article: ":UPDATE, 2:54 p.m.: This post has been edited from the original for the sake of accuracy."

Oh, ok. Just what was edited? And how what the previous version not accurate? And why should we trust this version?

Just got off the campaign tele-conf. with seven other consultants nationwide.

It is -over- for the GOP. The blind-siding of them is in the works. The GOP will lose IL, NV, and WI. (Forget WA and CA - they are already beyond GOP's reach.)

Reid is safe. Feingold is safe. Welcome Alexi to DC - you can take that to the bank.

N.B.: We do not care about AK. Lisa can have it.

It isn't news as to which side they are on, but we as a nation, we should never desensitize our expectation for fair and balanced reporting from journalists. It's their job, dammit, and if they are unable to be objective in light of their own political views, they should find a job as a commenter or start a blog.

@Lyssa@206p: Don't you think that there is a difference between a Republican group making partisan remarks and a group of journalists making such remarks?

Alex said...

William - since I consider the MSM to be the media-arm of the Democrat party, no.

Bruce Hayden said...

It really doesn't matter whether it is true or not, because it is something that mainstream journalists would do to sabotage a Republican candidate, esp. one like Miller who as endorsed by Palin. We know that even if this isn't totally true here, it is true enough overall that we can get our outrage flowing.

I know this sounds cynical, and it is. But, the MSM has abandoned any pretext of neutrality this election (actually, they did so a couple of elections back).

John Stodder said...

If they were joking around, as reporters tend to do with irreverence for both sides, why didn't the station just say THAT in its response, rather than the plainly illogical, Queen of Hearts declaration that words mean what they say they mean?

I want to be objective.

KVTA is upset because the reporters' comments were edited for publication.

I will take that seriously when they make complete raw footage of their interview tapes available on the internet.

(the other kev)

All right then, Bever, if you say the quote is out of context, provide a transcript of the full conversation to show us what is the context. If it were the Miller campaign making the charge, that's exactly what you'd demand. If the Miller camp is right, you have a vested interest in hiding the truth, and your non-specific denial doesn't garner trust.

Why are you surprised what a bunch of scum sucking douche bag journalists have to say.

Sorry that all of those adjectives are so redundant.

Journalist is bad enough a epithet to be called by anyone. You don't get much lower.

The only thing worse than a journalist is a lawyer.

It is important to recall that both Sarah Palin and Miller are running against the Republican establishment in Alaska.

Libs love it when they can count on thier kind to do what is needed when the time comes.

Repubs love it when they can reaffirm victim status.
