I like making sweet potato pies.

1 (1 pound) sweet potato
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Directions

Boil sweet potato whole in skin for 40 to 50 minutes, or until done. Run cold water over the sweet potato, and remove the skin.
Break apart sweet potato in a bowl. Add butter, and mix well with mixer. Stir in sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth. Pour filling into an unbaked pie crust.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 55 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools.

Every day on google news, I see links to stuff about the Casey Anthony trial.

I know absolutely nothing about it!

Why is there so much hoo-haw about the trial?

Sweet Potato pies are the best!

On a different note, has anyone been on vacation to Miami? I've never been and am thinking about going towards the end of the summer...

My dad said he'd go to San Diego instead and Key West has also been suggested but I think they are both more expensive...

That vine has a design perfect to have been made for Adam's first leaf covering his nakedness.

Basically because many in the press and punditry want to kill her. They see her as a modern-day monster, trial or no trial. It's also interesting to see how the pre-trial biases play out in the courtroom.

However, Anthony's right to a fair trial is now being impinged upon, making a mistrial a real possibility. The judge seems to be going off the rails because he wants the trial done and over with by July 4th - which he promised the jury before the proceeding got under way. But the lawyers are no longer cooperating with the judge's increasingly rigid schedule - raising issues and objections leading to more and more delays. Like today, court canceled because the prosecutor claims he has a reading impediment.

Anyway, I posted a P.O.V. earlier here.

First Wisconsin, now New Jersey. Soon to be followed by Ohio, Indiana and all 57 states before it's over.

The unions gravy train and clout is slip, sliding away.

N.J. Senate passes health care,
pension bill

"Undaunted by hundreds of labor leaders protesting outside the Statehouse, eight Democrats in the New Jersey Senate supplied the votes needed to pass a historic bill today that would require public workers to pay more for their health and pension benefits. The measure passed 24-15 with the support of the entire South Jersey delegation and GOP minority."

Depends on your interests and expectations. If you want to spend time by the sea and budget's a concern there are cheaper alternatives to both.

Don't overlook the possibility of Mother Nature affecting your holiday in Florida in late summer.

"At the Sweet Potato Café..."

Ah, a reminder! If I may be so bold as to inquire, does the Meadecouple think that a trip to W-S for a meal at the thread-eponyomus joint is a summer option? My wife and I would be happy to host you there. Pretty much any time but the first week of August.

"My dad said he'd go to San Diego instead"

San Diego - in my experience - is foggy and cold until the afternoon.
They make a big deal out of the trolley. If you must ride that, don't go south. It goes from bad to terrible pretty fast.

Miami is nice. It will rain in the afternoon. The sun will return in 20 min.

Key West is small. And not very interesting.

One day, soon I hope, Meade or SOMEone will talk about porcelainberry eradication and effective techniques. Merci beaucoup.
