How to comment at Instapundit.

Vote in (or view) one of his polls. You can comment at the poll results page.

That link goes to today's GOP 2012 nominee poll. Yesterday, he had this poll, with fewer options. And tons of comments at the results page. 136 pages of comments! I was going to copy and paste Meade's comment... but it's too hard to find. He tells me he wrote "Jeb Bush/Rob Portman" with a link to this article by Juan Williams ("The Perfect GOP Ticket In 2012 Would Have Jeb Bush and Rob Portman's Names On It"):
Bush and Portman can’t be marginalized as Tea Party extremists but they can spout enough hot rhetoric to stir the base. They are also perfectly acceptable to the social, economic and foreign policy conservatives in the Republican camp. The Bush-Portman ticket would satisfy the William F. Buckley rule for Republican Primary voters — pick the most conservative candidate who can win.

Way back when, I was concerned when W ran. Even back then, it was clear that Jeb was the better of the two. But the well is now poisoned.

I'm not surprised by the Rick Perry result, was who I chose too.

Glenn should open up comments more often than he does, I would enjoy checking out peoples reaction to some of the things he posts.

Someone's got to be the Guy Who Actually Wants Another Bush. Sooner him than me.

No it isn't. People are more than willing, I think to seriously consider Jeb Bush as a serious presidential candidate and might be willing to make him the nominee against Obama. He may be a Bush, but he isn't George and George wasn't even all that bad.

Ok--who's Rob Portman?

I luvya Methadras but the Bush name is poison to the Republican base at this point in time (to use an awful phrase). Not the Republican establishment, they'd nominate another Bush in a heartbeat. But the base won't have it and the establishment understands at least that much this time around.

It's nice of Glenn to run a poll. I still think Perry won't make it. I think he's gonna carry the luggage of being governor of Texas. And, nobody wants a Dubya stooge. So, it's not on my list.

While "inside the beltway" when they do polls, they're polling by district! (I think a democrapic rep from Arkansas just decided to retire.) So, I'll guess that the weight of obama's incompetencies weigh heavier on them than anywhere else?

I think, too, most people think the "crisis" is more bullshit than poetry. And, they want spending CAPPED! There's a lot of things to cut ... before you get to grandma.

But for show? Well, isn't that how the political winds blow, anyway?

When harvahd ran short of funds, they cut the free coffee to the students. Who go into debt to pay for their crappy credential.

It's like putting Norway in charge of solutions.

And, just like Oslo, it takes a very long time to motive anyone "over there" to take critical actions.

I thought you said the other day on the Victoria Nourse thread that you weren't into politics.

These are not Bush friendly days anymore.

Jeb is an old fashioned consensus RINO.

He is going to have to do more than be the gentle and mild Bush to win the 2012 sweepstakes.

Went with Perry, too. The Lefties assume that Conservatives will be turned off him because he was a Rudy guy last time out. Hate to tell them, but a lot of Conservatives were.

I think the comments are a feature of the poll software, not Insta's doing. Otherwise, he doesn't do them.

PS Insta's polls (and some of Ann's, IIRC) don't work in Google Chrome, so I have to fire up IE.

Newly elected Senator (T-OH)

David-
First term US Senator from Ohio. Former congressman from Cinn area. Was Budget Director and Trade under GW. About 55-56 I think. Rumored to be The advisor to the Senate GOP on current debt positions. Excellent speaker/debater. Won most of his campaigns by large margins. Very popular even on the eastern edge of his district which is majority union/democrat territory.
Meade would know more as he was Cincinnati-area resident.

I don't want the most conservative candidate who can win. I want the most conservative candidate, who can't win, to win.

I want Palin.

A Perry nomination makes sense. After all, in the past three presidential elections the GOP nominee has been a Hispandering, open borders, moderate-posing-as-conservative, from the southwest. Why break with that tradition now?

Americans do not like family political dynasties so jeb bush will be rejected. George got elected because our choice was between two political heirs and we picked by far the better of the two. History has shown that hereditary rulers do damage to liberty.

If you think that this country has such a bad memory that they would vote for yet another Bush, think again. Maybe in Right Wing Lala land. But as much as the Dems shoot themselves in the foot every time they touch a gun Bush would be a non starter. If they want to win they have to tack to the center and get a new face...preferably not a crazy one.

Pragmatist said...

And remember, Bush the Son was "elected" with 500,000 less votes than his opponent. And has a Republican Supreme Court and a ballot box stuffing brother to thank for the "victory". Jeb running would bring that whole fiasco back into the spot light again.

"...ballot stuffing..."?
That's a new (to me, anyway) addition to the narrative. I thought you were opposed to superstition and nonsense, no?

Sorry Jeb, it may be unfair but Americans don't want dynasties. No more Bushes for a couple generations.

Bush/Portman is OK by me, but what about Giuliani/Perry? Rudy could chop Obama up in little pieces in debate, and he is entirely sound fiscally and on defense. He has more personal force than everyone else running put together. He will have to accommodate on social issues, but wasn't it Perry that basically said leave this stuff to the states (re NY's gay marriage law)?
