The last day of my Christmas vacation - I am sending it off by splitting a fine bottle of Novecento Extra Brut with the spouse. Those Argentines have certainly developed a way with cheap sparkling wines.

Now if only they'd stop with the "Islas Malvinas" already...

Oh goodie, a place to repeat:
Wisconsin has a killer marching band. And..I love a flyover. B-52 cool. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

Rooting for the Badgers today, but I have to follow it on Si.com.

As for the Packers, I'd still vote Rodgers for MVP, but with Brees lighting it up, it's a LOT closer.

Prof. Althouse, I was struck by the comment yesterday suggesting that Meade put up the post about the Packers. I'm wondering two things: First, have there been more sports related posts since Meade came into your life (It seems to me there have been), and if so, is that because you and Meade talk sports from time to time, whereas prior to Meade you really didn't talk much sports? (Although I do recall that you posted about the Turin Olympics quite a bit). Just wondering idly.

We're happy to see Michigan State win for the Big 10 in the Outback Bowl.

God, I might as well follow the Althouse thread. It updates faster than SI!

Not looking like we'll see much D.

Ann Althouse said...

I'm always looking for the fishbowl effect... in garden gazing globes and so forth.

I have found it in the Ducks helmets.

Presentation of a new furball. (video)

There's nothing more content than a Doberman furball-sucking.

One hour later pic, nothing moving.

Looks like the Badgers defense woke up.

It's because of Meade that I'm watching football and baseball these days, but I write my own posts. Always.

Have I ever previously cared about any sports? I've been to a few baseball games, but only with my ex-husband.

On my own, I would watch the Olympics and follow the success of UW Teams. I'd probably watch the Badgers in the Rose Bowl, even if I were on my own.

Last day of my Christmas vacation, too.
Also, and make a note of this, the best way to get your house cleaned is to invite your daughter's new boyfriend over for dinner. Just sayin'.

Oh...fudge. 91 yards. I guess the D was only momentarily awake.

Got all the Christmas stuff taken down and the tree out on the curb. A good bit better time than last year.

The Blonde gets a little down at Christmas because of her son, but misses the tree and stuff if it doesn't go up. Last year was tough because so many things seemed to have gone wrong at once. Somebody was looking out for her this year.

PS Uh, those aren't fingers, are they?

No fashion commentary about Oregon's shiny helmets?

I'm flabberghasted that the national championship will not be televised AGAIN on regular TV. We get the outback bowl but not the sugar? Why not?

Anyway, I'm a bama fan, but getting a bit jaded, finally. After all these years. LSU cannot be happy about the repeat and Alabama has to be. I can almost 100% guarantee that if the situations were reversed (if we had the undefeated record & if we'd beaten LSU), bama would NOT be playing LSU again. I could be wrong...

For new years, I got sick, and I am so tired of the stress and the sickness and the infection and not having access to a home testing kit to see if it's viral or bacterial, because it means I have to drag my aching self down to my drs office where I will wait AT LEAST one hour and fifteen minutes in the waiting room. I'm planning on stretching out onto the floor if I have to wait more than 30 minutes. Maybe I will bring a pillow. How in the world do people head off these things, like, say, once you start sneezing?

Patrick said...

Yeah, that's some great D.

I always figured you wrote your own posts. In the (what I figure to be unlikely) event you'd have Meade write a post, I'd suspect that would be made clear. It's your blog.

Wisconsin's marching band is not killer.

Their drill is way too easy-they barely move. There marching technique is all over the place-check out individual heights, they have no color guard, their intervals are a total mess and they cant even memorize their own music-sad.

For novices who know nothing about MarchingArts/Pageantry they are great though. Otherwise, for those that know go to a Drum Corps Show and see a real marching group with demand, talent, creativity and excellence.

Sorry Wisconsin, get a better marching band.

tits.

I don't give a fig about the U of W football game but many thanks to Wisconsin, Salemville Amish, to be exact, for some excellent blue cheese.

HT said...

Well I guess the Wi game is not on regular tv.

Michael Haz said...

The U of W Marching Band does pretty good, considering their average BAC numbers.

Is Brent Musberger dying of some disease? He looks awful! Stooped over, bad skin color.

The Rose Bowl is great so far: 28-28 at the half.

Oregon Ducks costumes are great. I love their head gear too. So slick and fab.

I love all the green against the green field.

You know some fag came up with that.

tits.

Titus said...

Wisconsin's football team unis need to take a newer, fresher take on the color red. I would also recommend some silver.

Also, the cheerleaders need to show more cleavage. I realize they play in Wisconsin during the fall but come on.

UCLA's cheerleaders are by far the best.

Titus said...

Not to dwell But The Ducks yellow trim and accents around gloves, wrists, lettering etc is so tasteful and delish.

And silver helmets are too much. Do they have matching silver pumps? Oh no, outstanding.

The Big Ten is @ this point 3-5 in bowl games this year. The best they can hope for is .500, which is a very good year for this overrated, underachieving, unimaginative conference. Ya hey dere, go Badgers! At what point will Big Ten fans wake up? Thick waisted white boys and token Negroes does not make a winning conference. But it does make a good punching bag for winning conferences. The SEC and Pac-10 should send you folks gift baskets every year.

Yes ... alcoholism.

Ohio State took a dump on special teams and gave their game to Florida. I am so excited to watch Urban Meyer bring the SEC to the B1G.

Oh man. What a way to end the game. I feel bad for Badger fans.

Pain!

I think Oregon is the better team and deserved to win, but we had a shot.

Can't shake the feeling that if Barry Alvarez was still our coach, we'd have one or two more Rose Bowls.

cliff claven said...

The Big Ten is 3-6, pretty consistent w/ past years. And also consistent are the upcoming alibi and whining. Let's hear it Big Ten people, "We wuz robbed".

The fashion critique by the Titus person was intersting. Man or woman?

Patrick said...

Key turnover and no defense. Too bad.

When did Big 10 teams start passing? Refreshing to see.

If someone has a sense for fashion or interior design..."GAY!"

If someone likes flowers..."GAY!"

Next you'll start saying that anyone who likes to prepare tasty food is "GAY!"

Stop being so heterophobic. ;)

Hey Bielema the time out that you took early in the third hoping that the touchback on the kick-off was actually a safety sure came back to bite you in the ass.

Dumb ass.

The problem is no pussy SEC team wants to come to Wisconsin to play in January.

Florida never travels. Neither does Alabama, unless it's to Happy Valley at the end of August.

I give LSU credit — they at least went to Oregon.

This is one of the reasons why college football without playoffs is an absolute sham.

HT said...

Does Wisconsin play in January? I don't think so. I can understand the frustration of those teams not in the SEC. But understand those within the SEC: their competition is just too intense. As I've said before, it's a case of eating their own. We beat each other. It is the most competitive conference.

Two years ago, Alabama played Va Tech, at a time when they were considered very very good. I think we handled them pretty easily. The game was in Atlanta, not Tuscaloosa. And why are the Penn State wins so easily discounted. Surely that is not a gimme like North Texas or Florida International.

And LSU vs Oregon, LSU won pretty handily. I didn't actually watch the game, so I'm not sure if the score - 40-27 - told the whole story or not.

By the way, there are people in Alabama who also want a playoff system.

That bama is playing LSU again is kind of ridiculous, even though they might be the two best teams. It's not really fair to LSU, though honestly I don't know if Tiger fans think that or not.
