Karl Lagerfeld "said that in the future it would 'unfortunately' be 'OK' for women to be fat..."

"... but that at the moment it was unacceptable." He said runway models are "are skinny but they’re not that skinny. All the new girls are not that skinny. You know, there’s a new evolution." They're not anorexic — "nobody works with anorexic girls.... That has nothing to do with fashion. People who have that, they have problem with family and things like this. There are less than 1 per cent of anorexic girls, but there are over - in France, I don’t know about England - over 30 per cent of girls who are big, big, overweight."

If that irks you, enjoy this description of Lagerfeld written by the late great David Rakoff:
... Lagerfeld’s powdered white ponytail has dusted the shoulders of his suit with what looks like dandruff but isn’t. Also, not yet having undergone his alarming weight loss, seated on a tiny velvet chair, with his large doughy rump dominating the miniature piece of furniture like a loose, flabby, ass-flavored muffin over-risen from its pan, he resembles a Daumier caricature of some corpulent, overfed, inhumane oligarch drawn sitting on a commode, stuffing his greedy throat with the corpses of dead children, while from his other end he shits out huge, malodorous piles of tainted money.
ADDED: The Daumier he might have been picturing:

Buxom has always been in.

Our Latino compadres brought it a lot more out into the sunlight again.

Heidi Klum was considered too "fat" to do runway, so she ended up first doing things like the swimsuit edition of SI. Kate Upton is also considered to be a big girl, so her recent pictorial in Vogue (I think) was hailed as a big breakthrough.

Weird world we live in.

The Fug Girls do the most hilarious Karl Lagerfeld fictional conversations, by the way. It's tough to parody someone who is such a parody, but they manage to do it.

I'm pleased to be able to say I have no idea who this repellent man is, or why he's famous in the fashion world.

I presume he's one of the homosexual pedophiles of the trivial-arts world whose ideal of beauty is a 15 year old boy.

Runway models are skinny and flat-chested, and appear utterly vacuous as they glide down the runway. If one doesn't have to design clothing to fit a curved woman, I suppose that makes it easier, so I suppose an utter lack of design talent explains the models.

But there's nothing about a runway model that suggests a woman I'd like to meet.

Karl Lagerfeld is completely tongue-in-cheek. I always thought he was a stoic weirdo until I saw him interviewed on a German prime time panel show (they have many 60-90-minute-long thoughtful panel shows with a live audience and neutral hosts) and he was completely clever and charming in his native German. He probably knows that people who care about models' weight think of him as a weirdo reptile foreigner and could care less if they get his humor.

Okay with whom? Who is the arbiter?

I would hope that the woman is.

As for runway models, their bodies are nothing like the average female body, regardless of weight. They're very tall with very long legs, for one thing. Just because it looks okay on a runway model, that doesn't mean it's going to look okay on the average in-shape girl.

And could that be why all those high-fashion clothes never do get bought by the average woman, who wants to look good?

Women generally earn their own money and shop for their own clothes nowadays, so this strikes me as weirdly out-of-date thinking.

Kunty Karl??

Imagines women?

No, that never happened.

They are like men, and some of them ARE men. What's disturbing is the recreation of the idea of female beauty around a male norm. People are being trained to think of the natural woman as deficient.

Not a male norm, but a female norma.

But it's not a male norm. If it was all runway models would look like the redhead from Mad Men.

It is passing strange that gay men are now designing women's clothes to be worn on the runway by gay men.

These child molesters-lovers place way too much faith in the power of child molesters to shape how normal men behave.

Men like porn stars. Porn stars are not fat nor anorexic, but curvy-to-girlishly thin.

And more and more men will compete for the fewer and fewer hot girls, and leave the fatties to die alone.

And only pretty girl genes will survive.

---No, Easy Annie A., women are naturally deficient.

Men have created 99.9% of everything you see, touch, and use. You women? Only a piddling few outliers have done anything.

You tough grrrls would die in 5 minutes if not for all the males and male accomplishments supporting your lazy asses.

Get a clue.

Someone on Red Eye observed that models are pretty with their clothes on but look like a pile of antlers naked. I'd like to give credit for that metaphor but I can't remember who said it.

France must have changed a lot in the past 13 months since I was last there. C'est la vie. How are the girls in Ukraine these days?
