"The big embarrassment here isn’t the spying..."

"... but rather the fact that it has become public due to the incompetence of those charged with keeping it secret — and, of course, the inept response once the news has come out."

I agree. Us spying on our allies? Hardly a shocker. Israel spies on us heavily, after all --- it's what you do. It's nothing personal.

But we keep people in positions they shouldn't be in and are stunned when they leak.

...though, I still applaud Snowden for what he did.

Betamax has it covered. That is exactly how I see this administration. Creepy little thugs collecting dirt, to use for their own personal gain.

Government is the only place that Col. Flagg types can make a good living. Otherwise the best life they could aspire to would be greasy little PI's working divorce cases.

Woodrow Wilson gave J. Edgar Hoover his startup opportunity.

Sure. We hope our Government spies on our enemies, even on our friends. We expect our enemies, even our friends, spy on us.

But when the size of the covert organization increases, and the targets become domestic not foreign, chances increase that someone will blow the lid off.

And rightly so.

Snowden has alot more to expose.

No doubt there is systematic spying on everyone. Disk space is cheap and they can record everything you write on the INTERNET, including this post.

And with data mining they can for a complete dossier of YOU, at their leisure.

Spying of other nations? True one expects some, but the total spying on all their phone calls, emails, voice mails, etc.. shows our lack of trust with the very nations we may have to have as allies in any war.

It's time for total encryption of anything you say on the phone or post, and flood the networks with spoofs. For the only way to stop this spying is to use up so much CPU and bandwidth then they will be overwhelmed with traffic.

For like our founding fathers wrote, I love my country but I fear my government.

The big embarrassment is that it would have really been a big embarrassment if Bush, or any Republican were president.
With an Obama presidency it's pretty much meh, get over yourselves, everyones doing it.
Move along.

If the Euroweenies mind us spying on them, they must have something to hide, which means we can't trust them, which means we have to spy on them.

I still remember the hue and cry when NSA was perusing LIBRARY records. Scandal city.

This? Not as big a deal. Odd.
